Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi has defended his administration’s track record in Nyanduma Ward, highlighting various development projects worth over KSh 200 million.

He dismissed claims that the ward had been neglected, emphasising that ongoing and completed projects demonstrate that the county is committed to improving the area.
Among the key projects the governor highlighted include the rehabilitation of the Kagwe-Mungere Road, which is now fully complete. Additionally, the Gitwe-Kirangi Road is currently undergoing expansion, grading, and drainage works.

The county government has also undertaken the grading of various access roads across Nyanduma Ward to improve transport and connectivity for residents.
Beyond road infrastructure, Wamatangi pointed to the construction of Kagwe Market, a project valued at KSh 50 million, which is 70% complete. Kagwe Stadium, another major development, is over 95% complete and will soon provide a modern space for youth and sports activities in the ward.
The county government has also invested in education through the construction of six model Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers in Mbariki, Gachoire, Kirigu-ini, Karenge Chiboni, and Muhoro. Furthermore, efforts to improve water accessibility are ongoing, with the piping of water to homesteads from the Kiamiru Water Project currently in progress.
To enhance security and accessibility, solar streetlights have been installed in various locations, including Gikara, Chiboni, Kaharo, Kanyuiro, Ngenya, Kagwe Chiefs Office, Kagwe Car Wash, St Augustine-Kagwe Girls’ School, Karangi, and Mugumo-ini.

Additional development projects in Nyanduma ward
Additionally, the governor highlighted the county’s issuing of approximately KSh 10 million worth of bursaries to support needy students in the ward.
Again, over 10,000 farmers received maize seeds and fertilizers to boost agricultural productivity. The county has further distributed improved kienyeji chicks to farmers as part of an initiative to enhance food security in the region.
Amid the heated debate, a county official who preferred to remain anonymous told TUKO.co.ke that previous administrations had neglected the area, making it difficult for residents to see the impact of ongoing projects immediately.
“The problem we have is that previous administrations neglected the area. That’s why our efforts can’t be appreciated enough because there is a lot that needs to be done, and we will do it,” the official explained.
The official also pointed out that the Nyanduma Member of County Assembly (MCA) Beth Wanjiku holds a key position as the chair of the Finance Committee in the county assembly, meaning she has the opportunity to address such concerns during budget-making processes.
He urged leaders to work collaboratively rather than engaging in public outbursts that paint a one-sided picture of the situation.

Emotional plea that caused the heated debate
The heated discussion about development in Nyanduma Ward was sparked after an emotional public appeal by Wanjiku.
On Wednesday, March 12, a story by TUKO.co.ke captured the moment when the MCA pleaded with Wamatangi to address the dire condition of roads in her ward. Wanjiku tearfully recounted an incident where a hearse got stuck in the mud, forcing mourners to manually carry the casket to the burial site.
She lamented that despite being the elected representative, residents often credit the local tea chairman for making efforts to repair roads, diminishing her role.
