Residents and motorists along Thika Road were left in shock after a group of armed youths unleashed terror in the Ruaraka area on Wednesday, robbing and assaulting civilians in broad daylight.
The shocking incident, captured in amateur footage, showed the criminals vandalizing vehicles, looting businesses, and instilling fear among pedestrians. Many victims were forced to run for safety as the chaos unfolded.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the goons operated in large groups, moving strategically to target both businesses and pedestrians. One victim, a student, recounted how he was forced to surrender his phone after being surrounded by a gang armed with knives.
“They approached me as a group, and some were holding knives. I gave them my phone because I didn’t want to be attacked,” he explained.
A business owner in Ruaraka described how the goons stormed her shop, taking valuables worth thousands of shillings. “They grabbed whatever they could and warned me not to resist, or else they would beat me up,” she recounted.
Another victim stated that the gang, estimated to be around 70 people, raided multiple shops, stealing goods and assaulting owners. Some were armed with knives and small axes, making it difficult for anyone to resist.
Motorists were not spared in the attack. Videos circulating online showed the attackers vandalizing vehicles, both public and private, along Thika Road. One driver narrated how he hid in the backseat of his car to escape the violent mob.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the public that investigations were underway and that several suspects had already been arrested.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as they work towards restoring calm in the area.
