Alego Usonga Member of Parliament (MP) Sam Atandi and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi have asked President William Ruto to consider onboarding Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka into his broad-based government.
Speaking on Sunday, March 9, 2025, during the 8th anniversary celebration and thanksgiving ceremony at AIC Fellowship Annex in Eldoret town, Atandi urged Ruto not to leave anyone behind.
“I want to urge you Your Excellency, that you should not leave anyone behind. I know there are many leaders out there saying maybe the president is only interested in a few people. Even our brother, this Wiper guy, we need to bring him on board. We need to bring everybody on board. This journey of prosperity and unity of the country should be for everybody,” Atandi said.
Sudi on Atandi’s suggestion
His sentiments were echoed by Sudi, who asked the head of state to consider the proposal.
Sudi who heaped praises on Ruto for pushing for the nation’s unity through his broad-based government arrangement, said the first in command should approach Kalonzo and talk to him.
The controversial lawmaker emphasized the importance of unity, stating that the country should shun tribal politics.
“Hii maneno ya siasa ya ukabila ni maneno ya ujinga. Nataka kukuambia rais ile mambo ulifanya juzi, bila kukusifu, kurudi nyuma na kuunganisha sisi wakenya. Ata ule mtu Kalonzo vile Atandi amesema, ikiwezekana ongea na yeye. Ongea na kila mtu, hii Kenya ni nchi ya sisi wote. Tushirikiane. (Loosely translates to: Playing tribal politics is foolish. And I want to tell you, President, what you did the other day, without praising you, going back and uniting Kenyans, was good. And even the other guy Kalonzo, just as Atandi said, talk to him. Talk to everybody because this country is for all of us. Let us cooperate),” Sudi said.
Kalonzo trashes Raila-Ruto deal
However, Kalonzo has maintained his stance and dismissed the pact that was recently signed by Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
While trashing the joint working framework agreement that was signed on Friday, March 7, 2025, Kalonzo blasted Raila, accusing him of betraying the cause of the Kenyan people who died in 2023 and 2024 as they protested the high cost of living, punitive taxes, and governance problems.
“If there is no formula at KICC today showing how Kenyans are going to compensate their families and the loss of lives because of police brutality, then nothing will come out of KICC other than betrayal of the Kenyan people,” Kalonzo stated.
