Former vice president and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has faulted politicians making millions of donations especially to churches, saying they are showing off stolen wealth in the name of donations.
In a statement on X on Sunday, March 9, 2022, Kalonzo said several services had been affected by the wanton graft being witnessed in the government, orchestrated by politicians.
“I have been reflecting on Psalm 11 – when the foundations are shaken, what will the righteous do? Kenyans, our foundation has been shaken. 6 million Kenyan university students are unable to get employment because of the policies of the KK regime. Our children are unable to go to class because our foundation has been shaken. Kenyans don’t have health coverage because the foundation has been shaken. That is the True State of our Nation,” he stated.
“There is betrayal everywhere. Betrayal by politicians against Kenyans. Politicians should never again appear before their people and show off what they have stolen in the shape of “donations.” The People’s Loyal Coalition will never betray the people of Kenya for temporary comfort.”
Ksh120 million donation
This comes a week after President William Ruto made a Ksh20 million donation pledge to the Jesus Winner Ministry Church in Nairobi’s Roysambu area.
The donation was made on Sunday, March 2, 2025, during Ruto’s visit to the church, which is led by Bishop Edward Mwai.
During the service, Ruto surprised attendees by pledging to rally his associates to contribute an additional Ksh100 million to the church, asserting that he was no longer bowing to pressure from the clergy, who had criticised his practice of making donations to religious institutions.
“You know, I have often been criticised for giving offerings in church. But when we give to God, we do not give to human beings. Offerings are not for Bishop Mwai, nor for the congregation—we give to God,” he stated.
“I have searched the Bible extensively, and as someone with some knowledge of scripture, I have never found a verse that says giving to God means the donation must be returned by a bishop.”
The funds were intended to support the church’s Ksh1.2 billion construction project.
