The government’s decision to hold a job recruitment drive in the same church where President William Ruto pledged millions has irked Kenyans.

On Sunday, March 2, Ruto attended a service at Bishop Edward Mwai’s Jesus Winner Ministry church.

The church is building a new worship centre and the president promised to give them KSh 20 million.

The politician pledged an additional KSh 100 million which he said he would raise by mobilising his friends.

However, the president was not done.

Ruto praised Mwai while bashing other clerics for their constant criticism, urging them to be part of the solution and not the problem.

The president further said that he would hand over a contentious 20-acre piece of land in Roysambu, previously contested by the Kenya Defence Forces and associated with the collapsed Uchumi Supermarket.

Numerous Kenyans threatened to occupy the church during the next Sunday service and demanded that Mwai return the money to the president.

What did Alfred Mutua do at Bishop Mwai’s church?

On Wednesday, March 5, the Cabinet Minister for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua visited the church.

Mutua launched the Kazii Majuu initiative by Ruto.

“This initiative is in line with Ruto’s vision to create more job opportunities for Kenyans abroad. It is offering employment in key sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, construction, transportation, and maritime industries,” Mutua wrote.

Thousands of youthful jobseekers turned up, hoping to find the supposed life-changing opportunities.

“Successful candidates will receive government support, including expedited passport processing and financial assistance, making it easier for them to transition into their new roles abroad,” the CS said.

Many Kenyans found it ironic that jobless youths were being promised jobs at the same venue where the president donated millions days before. Some suggested that the money could be put to better use.

“Why in church and not in the government offices? Please, someone explain.”

Drpeteodera:

“I have no words anymore…No words.”

“Shame on them.”

kui.kimani:

“I hope we remember all of these things in 2027 because Kenyans forget way too fast!”

_wanja_faith:

“Why can’t that money be used to create jobs? Or rather fund those youths to go to work abroad for free?”

Why did Bishop Mwai change phone number?

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Mwai faced backlash after Ruto’s pledges to his church.

According to the cleric, Kenyans shared his and his wife’s phone numbers and they were overwhelmed by messages of disapproval. The preacher said he received over 5,000 abusive messages from Kenyans and he was forced to get rid of the number.

Mwai disclosed that he and his wife had to buy new phone numbers while noting that the president did not leave any cash at the church.
