Tension is rising in Yala, Siaya County, as angry residents accuse Governor James Orengo of taking their community land.
The residents have come out strongly, calling him “mwizi wa mashamba” (land thief) and demanding answers.
According to the locals, the land in question has been used by the community for years. They claim that suddenly, it is no longer theirs.
“We have lived here all our lives. Now, we are being told this land belongs to someone else. How is that possible?” asked a frustrated resident.
Another resident added, “Governor Orengo should explain to us how this happened. We feel betrayed.”
Governor Orengo, who has always been known as a defender of justice, is now facing serious accusations.
The residents say they will not stay silent. They have vowed to fight for their land and ensure justice is served.
“Orengo always talks about fighting for the people. Now, he is the one taking from us. We will not allow this!” said a protester.
The people of Yala are calling on the national government to intervene. They want a full investigation into the matter.
“If this land was stolen, we need it back. We are asking President Ruto to step in and help us,” a local leader said.
The issue of land grabbing is not new in Kenya. Many leaders have been accused of taking public land for personal gain.
