Another Tragedy Strikes Baringo as Former MP Dies

Baringo county is in mourning once again after the death of former Baringo North MP Willy Rotich Kamuren.

A statement from the late politician’s family confirmed that he died while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

However, the family did not reveal the specific illness that caused the former legislator’s death.

Who is Willy Rotich Kamuren?

Rotich was a veteran politician who served as the first Member of Parliament for the Baringo North constituency from 1963 to 1969 under the Kenya Africa Democratic Union (KADU) ticket.

After a 14-year hiatus, Kamuren returned to politics, serving as a nominated MP in 1983 before being re-elected in 1988, where he served until 1997.

His death marks the third in the region, following the passing of two other politicians within the span of a month.

What other Baringo politician has passed away?

Rotich’s death comes days after Baringo Senator William Cheptumo passed away at Nairobi Hospital, where Rotich was also receiving treatment.

The highly respected politician was declared dead on Saturday, February 15. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the news, describing him as a dedicated individual who served with unmatched zeal.

He emphasized the late politician’s dedication to devolution, stating that he seized every opportunity to serve Kenyans.
