Senator Sifuna Praises Ruto’s CS Chirchir in Rare Show of Unity, Shames CS Wandayi

In an uncommon display of political unity, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has commended former Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir for his effective leadership during his tenure.

Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, February 26, Sifuna pointed out Chirchir’s proactive engagement with lawmakers and his adept handling of energy sector challenges.

Sifuna contrasted Chirchir’s approach with that of the current Energy CS, Opiyo Wandayi, criticizing Wandayi for prioritizing political ambitions over ministerial responsibilities.

The senator expressed concern over the ongoing dispute between Kenya Power and the Nairobi City County Government, suggesting that such conflicts would have been averted under Chirchir’s leadership.

“Yesterday, I ran into the former CS for Energy, Davis Chirchir, one of the most astute and few Cabinet Secretaries I respect because he interacted with members of this House and explained government policy. If he were still in that docket, I am sure the drama you are seeing in Nairobi of the Nairobi County government dumping garbage outside Kenya Power offices and Kenya Power retaliating by cutting power to county government offices, would not happen,” Sifuna stated.

The senator’s comments come in the wake of a public spat between Kenya Power and the Nairobi City County Government over unpaid bills, which escalated to retaliatory actions affecting city operations.

Sifuna urged CS Wandayi to address the situation promptly and focus on service delivery rather than political maneuvering.

“Where you see a Cabinet Secretary, there is a fight in your docket, but you do nothing at all. All you talk about is 2027 politics. You have failed as a Cabinet Secretary,” Sifuna added.

In response to the escalating tensions, CS Wandayi attended a meeting with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, chaired by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, on Wednesday morning.

The meeting aimed to resolve the outstanding issues between the county government and Kenya Power amicably.
