In Kenya, public officials hounded out of office by way of impeachment are barred from holding elective and appointive positions in the national and county government.

Gachagua said so far, he was yet to be declared ineligible to go for any seat as his impeachment was still in the High Court.

Gachagua cited the instance in which former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy were elected in the 2013 general election when the crimes against humanity cases against them were still active at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands.

“I have a case in court and it has barred me from my political undertakings. It cannot stop Kenya from moving forward. And it is not a must that I am the one on the frontline of the country’s political leadership,” he said.
