TRAGEDY: Traffic Police Boss Manning President Motorcade Hit, Killed By Speeding Car on Mombasa Road

A senior traffic police officer has died in a hit-and-run incident along Mombasa Road, Nairobi.
At the time of the tragedy, Mr. Obala Wasiaya, Embakasi traffic base commander, was manning traffic as President William Ruto’s convoy was making his towards Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
According to a report by KahawaTungu news outlet, a speeding car approached as the President’s motorcade arrived, prompting Obala to swing into action to stop it.
The officer abruptly jumped into the road, and in the process, the car hit and overrun him before speeding off to unknown location.
As a result, he sustained a fatal head injury and several leg fractures. Police officers cordoned off the scene and rushed him to hospital where he died days later.
The driver of the runaway vehicle was later apprehended and held in custody awaiting court arraignment.
This incident brought about the stark situation along Kenyan roads with a rise in accidents in the recent past. Motorists are asked to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws when driving along highways and busy roads to avoid road carnage.
