Trouble Ahead For KK Govt As Powerful US Senator Points Fingers At Ruto For Helping Rebels In Sudan

Kenya is at the center of a diplomatic conflict with the Sudanese government after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) revealed plans to form a breakaway government in Nairobi and President William Ruto’s perceived closeness to RSF.

Sudan’s military-led government fiercely protested this move, accusing Kenya of violating its sovereignty and recalled its ambassador from Nairobi.

On his part, Senator Jim Risch, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has accused the Kenyan government of facilitating genocide in the wake of Nairobi’s decision to allow the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to establish a parallel government in Kenya.

In a statement on X, Senator Risch accused President William Ruto’s administration of legitimizing the organization.

“Last year, I led efforts in Congress to recognise RSF-led atrocities in Sudan, which have contributed to over 150k deaths, as genocide. In January, it became US policy,” he said.

“Now, Kenya, a US ally, is helping the RSF legitimise their genocidal rule in Sudan under the guise of peacemaking—this is an unthinkable attempt to obscure the truth and will not end the massacre.” he added.

However, the RSF leaders, under the leadership of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), have stated that they will unveil their new government on Friday after multiple delays from the initial announcement planned for Tuesday.
