
Police on Friday, February 21, 2025, destroyed 14 makeshift camps believed to have been erected by a criminal network operated by remnants of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
OLA is an armed resistance organisation that operates in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) indicated that they also recovered at least ten assorted firearms and ammunition in the operation dubbed ‘Operation Jangili’ in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
Other items recovered in the operation include fake US dollars and Ethiopian Birr,200 kilograms of bhang among other items.

The National Police Service wishes to provide a further update on the progress made since the launch of Operation “Ondoa Jangili” on 3rd February 2025 in Isiolo and Marsabit Counties.

“Among the recoveries made were, 10 assorted firearms and ammunition, a variety of firearm holsters, fake currency in US Dollars and Ethiopian Birr, a water bowser lorry, 9 motorcycles, two motor vehicles, sack full of cannabis weighing approximately 200 kilos, food items, solar panels, generators, a set of military gear and caps, among other items,” he said.
“Several individuals have also been arrested, with multiple cases currently pending before the court.”
Consequently, activities such as As a result of this ongoing operation, activities such as the proliferation of small arms, illegal mining, human trafficking, cross-border incursions, and kidnappings for ransom have been curtailed.
“This has brought an end to the untold suffering experienced by people living along the Kenya-Ethiopia border,” police added.
Further, officers reiterated their unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens to stop criminal activities.
The operation which was launched on February 3, 2025, follows talks between President William Ruto and Ethiopia’s Director General of the National Intelligence Security Service, Redwan Hussein.
During the talks which also featured Kenya’s Director General of National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji held at State House, Nairobi, sought to resolve the issue.
