Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ramped up efforts to expand his support base, shifting his focus to religious leaders.
For two consecutive days, Gachagua has hosted various clergy members at his Wamunyoro residence as part of his strategy to appeal to people of faith.
This comes as he escalates meetings with political leaders from the Mount Kenya region to solidify his support ahead of the 2027 elections.
On Saturday, Gachagua hosted a delegation of religious leaders from Mount Kenya West as he sought to strengthen his backing in the region.
The delegation was led by the Bishop-Elect for Mount Kenya West, Venerable Canon Reverend Gerald Mureithi, along with his team.
Gachagua stated that they discussed several issues affecting the region and that he had the opportunity to hear the bishop’s perspective on matters he is currently engaged in.
“I was also honoured to receive his invitation for his consecration on March 23, 2025,” Gachagua said.
“Bishop-Elect Mureithi, whose surname aptly translates to ‘shepherd,’ is clearly the leader God has called to guide the Christians of Mount Kenya West during this season. I look forward to working with him to positively impact our region and our great nation.”
On Friday morning, Gachagua worshipped with church ministers and clergy from the PCEA Church at his Wamunyoro residence.
He noted that the church leaders, drawn from all presbyteries across the Mount Kenya region, encouraged him with God’s word and prayed for him regarding the various issues and decisions he has made and continues to make.
“They also shared their perspectives on national matters and offered advice on what they believe should be done for the betterment of the country and its citizens,” he wrote on X.
“I sincerely appreciate their counsel and fellowship.”
Gachagua, who on Wednesday held a meeting with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa, is actively reaching out to various leaders to strengthen his political influence.
On Tuesday, he also held talks with former Justice Minister Martha Karua, who recently rebranded Narc Kenya into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP).
“This afternoon, at our Wamunyoro residence, I met slightly over 80 former MCAs and councillors from across Nairobi County,” Gachagua said on his X account.
