Chebukati had been critically ill and was admitted to a Nairobi hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for nearly a week. Reports indicated that he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with sources revealing that his condition had worsened significantly.
His illness had been kept private, with close family members stating that he had been undergoing treatment at home before being rushed to the hospital when his condition deteriorated.Despite these reports, this is not the first time news of Chebukati’s alleged death has surfaced. In December 2024, similar claims spread on social media, only to be debunked later. The spread of misinformation has led many to question the authenticity of such reports.
Chebukati, who served as IEBC Chair from 2017 to 2023, played a significant role in Kenya’s electoral process, presiding over both the 2017 and 2022 general elections.
