A close friend of President William Ruto has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the removal of Deputy President Rigasi Gachagua from his role in the populous Mount Kenya region. The event was initially scheduled to be held in the region’s main counties but was suddenly cancelled, sparking widespread speculation and interest.
Allies said the cancellation was due to a combination of logistical problems and political considerations. The mission was aimed at boosting the deputy president’s influence in Mount Kenya, a region crucial to the success of President Ruto’s administration. However, he encountered unexpected obstacles that have complicated his performance.
The ally explained that internal disagreements of the local political leadership made a significant contribution to the abolition of the event. There were concerns concerning the coordination of the event, in particular with regard to the participation of certain local leaders who did not want to support the appearance of the vice-president of the continuous political rivalry.
These differences, compounded by concerns that the event could spark tensions, led to the last-minute decision to cancel the event.
The ally also said that the president’s office was involved in the matter, given the strategic importance of maintaining unity in the region. Efforts have been made to meditate between competing fractions, but the inability to resolve conflicts over time has forced cancellation.
