During a parliamentary session discussing the coffee sector, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba for what he termed as inconsistency in addressing coffee issues. Ichung’wah accused Wamuchomba of being vocal about the plight of coffee farmers during public gatherings, such as funerals and weddings, yet failing to participate in critical legislative discussions in Parliament. He accused Wamuchomba of failing to appear in parliament last week on Thursday during the same coffee topic.
He urged lawmakers, particularly those from coffee-growing regions, to prioritize their presence in Parliament to deliberate on and pass the Coffee Bill, which aims to address challenges facing the sector. “Let us stop shouting about coffee at funerals and weddings if we cannot turn up in the House to work on policies and legislation that will truly help farmers,” Ichung’wah stated.

His remarks highlighted the need for MPs to align their public rhetoric with meaningful action in the legislative process. The session underscored the urgency of addressing long-standing issues in the coffee industry, with Ichung’wah urging a united effort to support farmers through practical reforms.
