Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to announce his next political move in January 2025, following the court’s verdict on his impeachment case. This strategy aims to maintain his influence within Kenya’s political landscape.
Reports from TV47 suggest that Gachagua rejected an offer from former President Uhuru Kenyatta to join and rebrand the struggling Jubilee Party, which is part of the Azimio coalition. In the 2022 general election, Gachagua ran alongside William Ruto under the Kenya Kwanza coalition, actively opposing Jubilee. He plans to establish his own political party to further his agenda, contingent on a favorable court ruling.
Additionally, there were plans for Uhuru to endorse Gachagua as the Mt. Kenya kingpin during Reverend Peter Kimani’s ordination in Embu, but these were reportedly canceled due to Ruto’s confirmed attendance. Political analyst Macharia Munene highlighted the urgency for Gachagua to align with a political party, emphasizing his desire to strengthen representation for the Mt. Kenya region.
