The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has announced the party’s readiness for grassroots elections, signaling a critical moment for internal party democracy.
Speaking after a Central Committee meeting, Sifuna outlined plans to conduct the elections at polling center levels across all 47 counties. The exercise, scheduled for next week, aims to rejuvenate the party’s structures and strengthen its grassroots networks.
According to Sifuna, the Central Committee reviewed the necessary preparations to ensure smooth and transparent elections. The process will enable ODM to consolidate its support base and reinforce its presence nationwide, especially as political realignments continue to shape Kenya’s landscape ahead of the next general elections.
This initiative underscores ODM’s commitment to grassroots democracy and its focus on solidifying its foothold in key regions, particularly in its traditional strongholds such as Nyanza, Coast, and Western. The grassroots elections also aim to empower members at the local level and enhance their participation in decision-making within the party.
Sifuna emphasized the importance of the elections in maintaining ODM’s relevance and preparing for future electoral contests, sending a strong message to rivals attempting to make inroads into the party’s core support bases.
