Founder of Reigners Church in Embu Bishop John Mukundi has come out to condemn the catholic bishops Decision on returning money given to them by president William Samoei Ruto.
According to bishop Mukundi, the decision is not biblical but Political.
“Catholic Bishop’s decision to return offering is not biblical. It’s a political decision.”
This has seen Kenyans reacting. One noted
“If the purpose of money if ulterior, it should be rejected. Politicians should not give money to churches to influence politics. The bishops did the best because they were given bribes to silence them. Why take the money and we don’t have services in the hospitals. It’s biblical in my view. Zaccheus then was to return 4 times of all the loot. Ours didn’t comply. It must be 4 times for it to be accepted.”
Another one added “For them to return millions is an indication that they have conquered greed which unfortunately many people in church are struggling with. It’s a sign of integrity. There are things expressly written in the Bible; others are moral issues and they are right. Returning the said money is morally acceptable, since it is distancing themselves from political involvement.Catholic remains Catholic. We’re no longer available for search giving. We’re not after Money. Think about the kingdom of heaven not earthly things.”
It was also speculated “If you can control what you eat you can control anything else in the world. The church needs money that is true and biblical but refusing money from unclean hands that is a true stand of a Christian. I support Catholic Bishops. We refuse to embrace corruption, bad governance and looting of public resources in the context to give to church.”
Another one questioned him “As a Bishop, does every christian in your church announce the amount of offering they bring in your church however small or big? Then if you allow them to do so that’s not an offering but fundraising. Am not a Catholic but I disagree with your argument. What the political class is giving to churches is not offering but bribes. The church must redeem itself to regain its glory as a place of worship but not a political arena for settling political scores.”
