President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday met at the installation of Rt. Reverend Peter Kimani as Embu Diocese Bishop.
This is the first time the two will be attending the same event since Gachagua was impeached from office as Deputy President.
The ex-DP was first to arrive while accompanied by a section of his close allies from the Mount Kenya region to the service.
Ruto arrived later alongside Deputy President President Kithure Kindiki.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by hundreds of catholic faithful and a host of political leaders from the region.
Ahead of the installation, Gachagua went big on Biblical quotes, highlighting Mathew 9: 37 and 38.
“He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field,” Gachagua quoted from the Bible.
“I am delighted to join the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Embu for the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani is the Bishop of the Embu Diocese. Congratulations, Bishop Kimani, I wish you the very best on this day and always as you Shepherd in the vineyard of the Lord.”‘
Gachagua’s remarks on Saturday will be closely monitored by political players, given that he is accompanied by his close allies.
The former DP has heightened his engagements with Mount Kenya residents, opting to attend social events including church and funeral services.
In his latest public appearance last week, Gachagua asked Mount Kenya Gen Zs to register as voters and wait for his political direction at the right time ahead of the 2027 polls.
Some of the MPs from the region who supported Gachagua’s ouster are having a rough time with voters planning to recall them.
The latest one to be shown wrath was Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina who was heckled and insulted at Lower Bus Park in Nyeri Town, by angry matatu operators on Monday, November 11.
Mathira Constituency residents on Wednesday started collecting signatures to launch the process of removing their area Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi for voting in favour of the impeachment motion against Gachagua.
The exercise kicked off in Karatina town, where residents came out carrying their identification cards to sign petitions to recall their MP.
