Former President Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, Decision Desk HQ projected, after a grueling race that ended in a stunning repudiation of the Biden administration and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The 2024 election was one of many firsts. Trump sought re-election in a run that would make him the first president to return to the White House after being voted out of the highest office in the land, while Harris ran to be the first woman president.
That all came, of course, after the race was dramatically upended when President Joe Biden ended his campaign, under tremendous pressure from his own party, over a disastrous CNN debate in which the 81-year-old stumbled and slurred through 90 minutes facing off against Trump.
That exit kicked off a 100-day sprint to election day for the Harris campaign, which hastily erected a run and sought to sell the vice president, whose approval ratings were underwater, to the American people.
Trump, meanwhile, criss-crossed the nation for a relentless schedule of rallies in which he assailed the Biden administration’s policies on the economy, crime, and the border, and sought to convince voters that their lives were better four years ago.
