Busia County Senator, Okiya Omtatah Okoiti has responded to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s remarks he made during the Supreme Court 12th. Anniversary on the court rulings.
According to Okiya Omtatah, there can never be a true national interest without the presence of public interests. He said that the majority threat to national interest is compromise of public interests, this makes no national interest available as said by President William Ruto’s new deputy Kithure Kindiki that the ruling should have in account of the national interest as opposed to only public interests.
Senator Okiya Omtatah who has been constantly fighting for Kenyans in Court by opposing some unfavourable government policies, has now urged for vigilance as the State can be mobilised to pursue the actions that may threaten the very existence and rights of citizens.
There can never be a true public interest without the presence of public interest. When public interest is compromised or ignored, the essence of national interest falters. It is crucial to remain vigilant, as the State can be mobilized to pursue actions that may threaten the very existence and rights of citizens” stated Omtatah.
The Deputy Preisident Kithure Kindiki on his side said that the he has asked himself about the national interests being higer than public or there is another interest higher than the national interest itself.
“I have had to ask myself whether the highest interest is the public interest or there is another higher interest called national interest because the public itself could hurt the national interest” Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said.
