Professor Kithure Kindiki will this morning take the oath of office as Kenya’s Deputy President in a well-attended ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
His swearing-in follows a High Court ruling on Thursday, where a three-judge bench lifted a conservatory order that had temporarily blocked the inauguration.
This order was originally issued by the Kerugoya Court after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua filed a petition challenging his impeachment by the Senate earlier in October.
The High Court’s decision marked a significant turning point, dismissing the legal hurdle that had previously delayed Kindiki’s ascent to the office.
However, the court gave Gachagua the leeway to appeal the decision before the Court of Appeal.
The inauguration event has attracted a large gathering of supporters and dignitaries, who celebrated the historic transition.
Gachagua was impeached after the Senate voted to uphold five out of 11 charges levelled against him by the National Assembly.
