Professor Kithure Kindiki has been sworn in as Kenya’s third Deputy President under thee new Constitution.
He was sworn in on Friday following the lifting of orders that had delayed the process for about two weeks.
He was received with cheers as he stood to take his oath of office
He succeeds former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached.
Before his nomination by President William Ruto, Kindiki served as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
He was subsequently confirmed by the National Assembly.
A three-judge bench of the High Court lifted orders that had barred Kindiki’s swearing on Thursday.
Kindiki arrived at the venue of swearing in, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) at 10am accompanied by his wife Dr Joyce Kindiki.
Before his arrival, Kindiki passed by his former office at Harambee House where he was received by senior staff including the Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
They then walked together to the KICC.
