During the Wednesday, June 12, Citizen TV interview, the comedian revealed he was assured of the constitutional viability of such a petition after consulting with his legal advisor.

Can Ruto delegate foreign trips?

The activist articulated that it is unnecessary for Ruto to personally accept every international invitation, suggesting that other government representatives could attend in his stead.

He highlighted a stark contrast in travel frequency between Ruto, who he alleges has visited 68 countries within two years, and Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu, who, according to Eric, has travelled to only six countries.

“My lawyer is called Owade. I asked him to go through the constitution and find the legalities. Is it possible for us constitutionally to petition a president to travel less? And after two days, he told me it was very much possible. I have all the countries, 68. Samia Suluhu has only travelled to six countries. And I posted a video of her on Air Tanzania. She surprised even other travellers. It was an actual commercial flight. Six countries, against Ruto’s 68 countries.

The president needs to know it’s not a must. We are mourning the vice president of Malawi; it is unfortunate, and we pray for the country. President (Ruto), and he will attend his burial. The president will not forego any invitation. What’s the issue with Ruto just delegating? The president has made it a habit to attend every invitation,” he said.

William Ruto faces backlash for lavish US trip

In May, Ruto faced criticism from Indian TV station Firstpost for his extravagant state visit to the US.

The visit included a large delegation of over 30 people, including comedian Eddie Butita, sparking backlash for the alleged use of taxpayers’ money.

Firstpost highlighted the contradiction between Ruto’s lavish spending and his fiscal policies, which have increased taxes and preached austerity.
