Security Tighthened at DCI Headquarters Ahead of Gachagua’s Arrival

Security has been heightened at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to appear for questioning.

Gachagua, who was recently impeached, was summoned by the DCI following claims he made about assassination attempts against him prior to the impeachment motion.

The tense atmosphere around the DCI offices is marked by a heavy police presence, with several trucks, including two equipped with water cannons, stationed nearby.

The stepped-up security measures were reportedly implemented shortly after Gachagua’s impeachment hearing was adjourned earlier in the day. The hearing at Milimani Law Courts saw a heated exchange between Gachagua’s legal team and the bench over the composition of the judges handling his case.

The impeached Deputy President made his assassination allegations on Sunday, shortly after being discharged from Karen Hospital, where he was treated following an illness that interrupted his Senate impeachment trial.

His comments have since drawn the attention of authorities, prompting the DCI to summon him for a statement.

Earlier in the day, the security outside the DCI headquarters was routine, but the situation changed rapidly after Gachagua left the court. Three heavy security trucks were seen arriving at the scene, likely in anticipation of Gachagua’s appearance.

The trucks, typically used to manage crowds during protests, suggest that authorities are preparing for any potential unrest during the former Deputy President’s visit.

It is not yet clear whether Gachagua will present himself to DCI headquarters or whether he will be at Milimani courts where his case is currently underway.
