Why is Gachagua Right and Ruto Wrong in Your Prayers?

In a post on X, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi publicly criticized Bishop Teresia Wairimu, one of Kenya’s prominent religious leaders, for what he perceives as biased prayers involving Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto.

Ngunyi’s comments have sparked debate, especially within religious and political circles.

His post read: “Dear Teresia Wairimu: Two QUESTIONS. Why is Gachagua RIGHT in your prayers and Ruto is WRONG? Has God TOLD you that RUTO is WRONG? Are you LISTENING to God or to the People? If Moses listened to the PEOPLE, the Children of Israel would still be in BONDAGE. You are LOST Bishop!”

This scathing remark from Ngunyi draws attention to the perceived partiality of some religious figures in their public prayers for political leaders.

According to Ngunyi, the notion that Bishop Wairimu might be favoring Gachagua while being critical of Ruto raises concerns about the role of spiritual leaders in Kenyan politics.

Bishop Teresia Wairimu has long been revered for her spiritual leadership in Kenya, particularly through her church and evangelism missions.

Mutahi Ngunyi is asking critical questions regarding the foundation of Bishop Wairimu’s prayers.

He questions whether her prayers are guided by divine direction or shaped by public opinion, perhaps hinting at the polarized political landscape in Kenya.

His reference to Moses and the Israelites serves to remind the Bishop of the biblical precedent of spiritual leaders standing firm in divine instruction rather than bending to societal pressures.

Mutahi Ngunyi: These GoonZ Have Never Tasted War And They Want It Badly - Uptown RadioNgunyi’s critique speaks to a larger debate about the role of religious leaders in politics.

Should they be neutral arbiters of peace and unity, or do they have a responsibility to take a stance on political matters?

In Kenya, where politics often intertwine with faith, this balance can be challenging. Bishop Wairimu’s stance, whether deliberate or unintended, is now at the center of this conversation.
