Mombasa CEC Receives KES1 Million Bond in Blogger Abduction, Rape Case

Mombasa County Lands Executive, Hussein Mohamed, also known as Amadoh, has been granted a Kes.1 million anticipatory bond as he waits to learn whether he will face charges in connection with the abduction and gang rape of blogger Bruce John.

Justice Wendy Kagendo approved the bond on Monday, along with strict conditions that include one surety and a contact person. Alternatively, Hussein can pay a Kes.500,000 cash bail, which requires two contact persons.

In addition to the bond, Justice Kagendo ordered Hussein to surrender his passport and barred him from leaving the court’s jurisdiction without prior approval. She stressed that Hussein must remain available for questioning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and cooperate fully with the investigation.

“The applicant must continue to make himself available for interrogations by the DCI as required and must fully cooperate with investigators,” the judge ruled.

The court further stated that if charges are filed against Hussein following the investigation, he will be granted bond to attend court proceedings.

Justice Kagendo directed that the investigation be completed within six months and warned that failure to comply with court summons would result in an arrest warrant.

“If Hussein fails to comply with the summons, and there is sufficient evidence of service, a warrant of arrest shall be issued,” she said.

The judge also dismissed claims by Hussein that his arrest was politically motivated or an act of revenge. She emphasized that the investigation must be impartial and thorough, avoiding actions driven by headlines that fail to meet constitutional standards.

Investigations into Hussein’s alleged involvement in cyber-harassment, related to the abduction and gang rape of Bruce John, have already been completed by the DCI. The case has now been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review.

Meanwhile, four individuals have already been charged in connection with the abduction and assault of the blogger. Those charged include Esther Muthoni John, also known as Totoo, Violet Adera, alias Vayoo, Abdul Hassan Athman, alias Sindimba, and Haji Babu Ndau Mohamed, also called Achkobe or Jay.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has also provided a statement to the police regarding the September 12  incident.
