Why is MP Kirima lamenting after Gachagua’s impeachment?
Kirima revealed that Meru MPs supported the motion with the anticipation that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki would be the next deputy president.

However, in the aftermath of Gachagua’s impeachment, Kirima has noted a surge of interest from various political figures vying for the position.
“We Meru MPs signed that impeachment on the strength that Kindiki is going to be appointed as the next DP. But from the time we signed that impeachment, things are not as they were. There is a lot of lobbying from societies and tribes. I am concerned because things are not straightforward.
It should be as it was, the number two should take the place of number one who has been impeached. By the time I said Gachagua would not be impeached, I wanted to be remembered…If it were not for Kindiki, I would not have voted out Gachagua,” stated Kirima.
In advocating for Kindiki’s ascendance, Kirima emphasised that the Interior CS is well-acquainted with the issues affecting the county, reducing the need for further explanations of their grievances.
Who are the leaders reportedly interested in succeeding Gachagua?
Among those reportedly positioning themselves are National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga, Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru, Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, and even the candidate for AUC chairmanship, Raila Odinga.
Kirima claims that these individuals have attempted to sway Meru MPs to back their aspirations for the deputy presidency, a role that he and others initially believed Kindiki would assume.
The MP expressed distress over this development, particularly in light of President William Ruto’s statement indicating that Kenya’s next deputy president would be a female.
In a contrasting argument, he clarified that Gachagua’s impeachment was based on the charges presented in Parliament, asserting that it was not influenced by the head of state.
“I want to insist that there was no time William Ruto called us to impeach Gachagua. It is the charges read in Parliament. We have our brains and consciousness,” he explained.
National Assembly submits evidence against Gachagua
Meanwhile, the National assembly has submitted two pickups of evidence to the Senate ahead of Gachagua’s impeachment.
Additionally, the embattled deputy president has reportedly submitted his evidence ahead of Wednesday’s hearing.
