Ruth Chepng’etich etched her name in history books after setting a new world record in the women’s marathon on October 13.

Chepng’etich destroyed the rest of the field to clock 2:09:57 in what is the first time a woman has ever run a marathon race under 2 hours 10 minutes.

The 30-year-old emotionally dedicated the win to Kelvin Kiptum who passed on in February. Kiptum lost his life after the car he was driving veered off the road and rammed into a tree.

It was the same place where Kiptum set the new men’s world record last year. He clocked 2:00:35 to become the first human being to run a legally allowed race under 2:01.

“I dedicate this win to Kiptum. I am sure that if he was here today, he would have defended his title.”
