Former Manchester United Goalkeeper Makes a Comeback From Retirement and Joins National League Club

English professional goalkeeper Ben Foster announced his retirement from football back in September 2022. This was after his contract at Watford ran out and further turned down an opportunity to sign for Newcastle United as a free agent.

This morning, Welsh professional association football club Wrexham AFC has confirmed that Foster has made a comeback from his retirement and he will be joining the club on a deal that runs till the end of the current season.

Foster returns to Wrexham, 18 years after he last played for them on a loan spell from Stoke City.

The 39-year old goalkeeper signed for Premier League giants Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2005. However, he struggled to break into Ferguson’s first team and was loaned out to Watford for two consecutive seasons. He left Manchester United permanently in 2010 having made a total of 23 appearances for The Red Devils. Among other clubs that Foster played for in his career are Birmingham and West Bromwich Albion.

“If you’d told me 18 years ago that I’d have gone on to have the career that I have had, I probably wouldn’t have believed you to be honest so I do owe a lot to Wrexham,” Part of Foster’s statement after signing for the club read.
