JUST IN: What Happened Today After KDF, Cops Came Face to Face With Heavily Armed Bandits With Cows

The National Police Service (NPS) has this evening, 17 March, issued the latest update from the ongoing military and police joint operation dubbed ”Maliza Uhalifu North Rift”

In the report that NPS shared through its social media pages, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the NPS cops came face to face with heavily armed bandits who had just executed a raid and were driving away more than 100 heads of livestock in Baringo County

NPS reports that a heavy exchange of fire ensued as sounds of gunfire rented the air for several minutes.

Fortunately, the multi-agency security team emerged victorious and managed to recover the livestock that the bandits were driving away

“The animals were stolen from Chemoe and Kagir Villages in Baringo North and recovered from the bandits after a fierce fire exchange,” NPS said in part.

The recovered livestock, cows and goats were handed over to their owner after they convincingly identified them.

“The Multi-Agency Security Team conducting ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift’ yesterday handed over 87 cows and 26 goats to the rightful owners after positive identification,” NPS added.

The recovery of the livestock is happening a few days after phase two of the Maliza Uhalif North Rift was initiated and launched by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki.

The operation is being led by the police with the military there to offer much-needed help.

Prof Kithure Kindiki recently ordered that all residents living in areas that were described as “dangerous and disturbed” are vacated to create room for militarized operations against the bandits

Yesterday, sources from Baringo County revealed that one of the bandits’ hideouts had been bombed by the military.

The bombing happened at around 6 am.
