Raila Admits He Did Not Finish His Term in AU, Clarifies What Transpired

Raila Odinga

Last week, a lot of speculations were made in the social media after a letter from the African Union emerged, terminating Raila’s role as special envoy for infrastructure in the continent.

Raila came out to say that he is the one who had requested to leave the job. A section of Kenyans believed him while some people said that Odinga had been fired from the precious seat. Others suggested that his term of 5 years had come to an end and so he had to leave.

However, the Azimio leader has come out to admit that actually, he did not complete his term of 5 years as required.

Speaking at an interview with KTN on Tuesday evening, Odinga noted that he served for four years and he had one year left to complete his term.

The former prime minister further dismissed claims that he was fired. He noted that his termination came following his request. Raila said that while in Dakar, he Mr Faki that he be relieved from his role. The main reason he says it is because he had got other jobs to do in Kenya and would affect his traveling.

“I served for four years in that seat and we achieved a lot. I was not fired by anybody. When I was in Dakar, I asked Mr Faki to release me so that I could address other pressing issues in my country. He did not want me to leave but eventually he agreed. I felt that my roles here at home would inconvenience me from travelling,” noted Odinga.
