The Oldest President In Africa who Has Been in Power For 40 Years [PHOTOS]

The erosion of democracy has been accompanied in an increasing number of African nations by efforts to maintain the dominance of long-established families.

Although the African continent is endowed with many leaders of all ages, from youth to old age, today we will focus on the oldest President on the continent.

Who is now Africa’s senior president?

The oldest President in Africa at the moment is President Paul Biya of the West African nation of Cameroon.

Paul Biya, who was born on November 6, 1933, is currently 90years old and the president of Cameroon. Business Insider reports that the second president of Cameroon is the 7th-oldest president in the world. When Biya took office as president in November 1982, Cameroonians greeted him with open arms (which is over for 4 decades in power).

The peaceful transition of power by his predecessor Ahmadou Ahidjo garnered Cameroon recognition as a model to imitate in Africa, where leaders either were forced out of office after abusing their positions of authority or kept them for an excessive amount of time through deceit and violence.

The opposition has consistently charged Biya with widespread election manipulation, despite the fact that he has won every multiparty election since 1992.The constitutional two-term limit was eliminated by Biya in 2008.

The main opposition groups, the Social Democratic Front and the Maurice Kamto-led Cameroon Renaissance Movement, assert that Biya cheated to steal his victory in the most recent elections, which were held in 2018.
