The announcement was made during a fundraising dinner to support Mt Kenya Mountain Running Championship.
The governor said that cancer is a major health concern in Meru, and there is a need to come together as a community to support those affected by this disease.
“I sent a message to Gachaura today saying that I would send a message to the first gentleman, even if he had been banned, asking him to join us because even men can have cancer,” Mwangaza said during the event.
She said that the mountain run’s objective was to raise funds for cancer research, treatment, and support services, as well as to promote mountain tourism and conservation.
“My administration is committed to improving the health and well-being of our citizens, and we made a promise to invest in research and treatment for cancer. Through this, we were able to make progress towards fulfilling that promise and providing critical support for those affected by cancer,” Mwangaza said.
Murega Baicu accepted the appointment where he said he will use his guitar skills to go around the county to raise funds to buy an ecology machine that is worth KES 500 million. He said that such a machine would help diagnose and treat cancer patients in Meru without having to travel far.
He called upon the public and well-wishers to support this noble cause as they strive to make a difference and improve the lives of his fellow Meru citizens.
Over KES 10 million was contributed towards the run, where the governor emphasized that her government will be accountable and transparent to partners in all their activities.
