Sophia Abdi is one of the few Kenyan women who have managed to defy all the odds and make it in the murky world of politics.
Against all the odds, Sophia clinched the Ijara MP seat during the 2017 general election. By so doing, she became the first woman to be elected to represent a constituency in Northern Kenya.
In 2013, she fell short of winning the seat that was one held by long serving politician, the late Yusuf Haji.
Sophia had been thrust into the murky world of politics in 2007 when she was nominated to the National Assembly by the ODM party.
In Parliament, she became one of the top performing legislators. But her first attempt at elective politics suffered a big blow in 2013.
After bouncing back five years later, in 2017, the former MP finds herself in an awkward political position after losing her seat to Abdi Ali during the 2022 general election.
As she gets used to life in the political cold, Sophia is facing uncertain times ahead. Will this ex-history Making MP bounce back in 2027? If not, could the 2022 defeat mark the end of the road for her?
