From Deputy Head Teacher to Top Lawyer: The Story of Danstan Omari

Danstan Omari, an attorney, is widely recognized as one of the best in the country. He regularly offers his political analysis on national television and defends prominent figures.

He is well-known for bringing a fresh perspective to the halls of justice, which the judges and lawyers alike have always found amusing.

Reportedly, Omari was the first lawyer to ever handle a divorce case on live television. Before that time, such situations were kept private and rarely made public.

He has a strong resume thanks to the many high-profile clients he has represented across the country. Twelve years have passed since he supposedly became a lawyer after being admitted to the bar.

During that time, Omari defended high-profile clients like the late Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen and the controversial private investigator Jane Mugo, as well as high-profile clients like former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama in his divorce case and Deputy President William Ruto in the infamous Abby case.

For any famous person in trouble, he is the man to call because of his stellar reputation. He defends people accused of everything from bribery to murder. A high-profile case involving one of his clients is likely to make him a TV regular.

He had planned on becoming a lawyer ever since he was a kid, but his high school principle and parents almost derailed his career goals by convincing him to instead pursue a Bachelor of Education. Since no student at the institution had ever been granted admission to the legal profession, this was to be expected.

Omari felt he had no choice but to enroll at Kenyatta University, and by 1990 he had earned his teaching degree. This did not deter him from his dream of becoming a lawyer.

After working as an assistant principal in a high school for several years, the man decided to go to law school in 2005, enrolling at the University of Nairobi. Omari attended classes at UoN every day, despite having to travel from Muthurwa Secondary School in Kiambu.

Omari is frequently seen on television as a political pundit and has a keen interest in the subject. Though Mogaka himself has little interest in politics, his brother Steve Mogaka ran for and lost the West Mugirango seat in the last national election.

In his experience, defending the position of Vice President has been one of his toughest assignments. It’s not easy to follow the counsel of the second-in-command while also carrying out his orders.
