By Friday, UDA had clinched 36 MCA seats while ODM had clinched 35 MCA seats in Nairobi County. The Jubilee Party had 5 seats, Wiper party 4 seats and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) had one. Additionally there were 2 MCAs elected as independent.
The Orange Democratic Movement party, Jubilee Party and Wiper party are partners in the Azimio coalition.
Nairobi County has 85 wards but 2 wards – Kwa Reuben and Utawala – are yet to hold elections following postponement of the exercise by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. The polls for MCAs in these two wards are set to be held on August 23rd.
From the analysis of the already declared results so far, it has emerged that the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition will control the City Hall which was for the last 5 years dominated by Jubilee. It further emerges that Azimio La Umoja will have the advantage of selecting the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly as well as the Leader of Majority.
However the winner for Nairobi County governorship is yet to be announced despite Senator Johnson Sakaja (UDA) being projected as to have taken an early lead ahead of Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee.
