County government of Kisumu in Kenya broke ground for constructing a US $10 million Cancer Centre project amidst increased cases of cancer. According to the governor of the region professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o, the facility will ensure cheaper treatment of the third most deadly disease in the country. The facility is a modern one and will be a focal pont within the Western circuit and lake region economic bloc counties in treatment of cancer. The specialised cancer centre is the first one of its kind in the region and is expected to offer comprehensive oncology services covering Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and Palliative care to cancer patients.
Additionally, the center is actually meant to transform Kisumu Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital into complete referral hospital cutting the need to refer patients to Eldoret Moi teaching and referral hospital or even to Kenyatta National hospital.
When it resurfaced online, the new hospital construction sparked reactions as many praised the good work.
