Nyambura from Kangari, Murang’a County narrates her sad story of how she is ended up working as a prostitute at the streets of Nairobi CBD.
Born in a family of 12, Nyambura could not set foot in school, not even in nursery school since her parents could not afford it. She came to Nairobi at a tender age of 7 years old where she started working as a house help getting paid Kshs 500 a month.
She alleges that the job was a miracle to her since life became more comfortable. She could eat until she was was full, sleep in a bed unlike at home where they slept in sacks, no bed no blankets.
At the age of 15 years old, she met with a man who proposed to her. She accepted, got married and sired a kid together. But after after a while, he started being violent as he could come home drunk and batter Nyambura telling her that she was stupid since she never set foot in school.
When they got the second child, he decided to leave her and went back to his home village. This marked the beginning of Nyambura’s problems as life became tough for her.

After hustling for so much, she met with a friend who promised to introduce her to the business she does. Without asking, Nyambura desparately accepted it and in the evening, they left for town.
They reached CBD around 6pm and she was surprised after her friend took her to Koinange street where she alleged it’s her work place. She then gave Nyambura a pack of condoms and told her that one “shot” is Ksh 200, and Ksh 1000/800 the whole night.
Thinking it was a joke, her friend got a customer and left with him leaving Nyambura there alone. At around 11pm, Nyambura got her first customer whom they agreed on terms and headed to the room. That night she earned Kshs 800 which was a miracle to her. This marked the beginning of her job as a prostitute.
Life changed for the better but Nyambura claims that she has never had joy in selling her body for money. She now alleges that she has stopped working as a prostitute and wishes to start her own business no matter how small it is or source for another job so that she can raise her kids.
