Gerald Wanugu was one of the most feared criminals who terrorized businesspeople. Some of his partners were Kanagi Wacucu and Matheri Thuo lies Rasta. Because of his dreadlocks, he was dubbed Rasta. Before they were executed, these were Kenya’s most feared criminals.
For the benefit of the country, Daniel Song or Seroney put his life on the line, pursuing the most known criminals on his own. In Israel and the United States of America, Daniel obtained specialized instruction. He is still considered one of Kenya’s most capable police officers.
Daniel’s fellow cops sold him out to Rasta for the deaths of Wanugu and Wacucu, two of his colleagues. On December 15, 1999, he was hit by a bullet fired by one of his fellow officers. They shot fire 56 times on his vehicle, but he was unharmed. Daniel still has a bullet in his chest as a result of his failure to get the two million shillings required for the operation and to make matters worse, the police department has refused to reimburse his medical fees.
Even though his bullet wounds had not completely healed, Daniel was relocated to Kakamega after being released from the hospital and told to report to work as soon as possible.
He returned to Nairobi after reporting to Kakamega to surrender his two guns. A group of six people armed with AK47s grabbed him from Kakamega senior headquarters 24 hours after he left Nairobi unarmed. After four days in the boot of a car without food or drink, his kidnappers eventually abandoned him outside the Eldoret KCC office.
In 2001, the former head inspector was dismissed from the force. The administration ignored him despite his 17 years of work with the police department. Daniel returned to his village after being fired from the police force, where he now lives in poverty.
Many will live to tell the hero’s story of tracking down and killing the legendary robbers.
