Film and television actress Catherine Kamau alias Kate Actress was motivated by her son to work harder so as to move out of a bedsitter and into a bigger home.
According to the ‘Sue Na Jonnie’ actress, she would cry daily when her son asked why he couldn’t live with her. The son lived with Kate’s mother when the actress was still hustling and living in a bedsitter in Nairobi.
“My son would call me and ask me if I had gotten a big house so I could stay with him,” Cate said during an interview at Radio Jambo.
“I started living in a bedsitter, but I would make sure I visit my son at my mum’s house, and on weekends, have him stay at my place,” she added.
Kate Actress told her host Massawe Japanni that her son always asked her why her house was small, which motivated her to work even harder.
“‘Why don’t I live with you?’ he’d say. I would cry every day and tell God to let this be my motivation,” she said.
Catherine Kamau is now married to Philip Karanja who has since accepted her son as his own. The two, who started off as colleagues on ‘Mother-in-Law’ on Citizen TV, have been married for over a year.
“He was my director in the show and really helped me package my career. I love him because he is an organised person with a lot of potential,” she said.
She also opened up about social media bullying saying the worst trolls she gets are when she posts pictures with her husband and “people write ugly things about us”.
“It feels so bad, knowing that my life has been a journey, and some even involve my son,” she said.
