Alicia Silverstone: Yes, I Still Sleep with My 11-Year Old Son. So What?!?

There’s no shame in her parenting game.

During a July 19 appearance on The Ellen Fisher Podcast, Alicia Silverstone made headlines when she also made an admission about one aspect of her ongoing motherhood.

“Bear and I still sleep together,” the actress said of her 11-year old son, adding:

“And I’ll be in trouble for saying that. But I don’t really care.”

Best known for her iconic role in Clueless, Silverstone explained that she abides by a “natural” style of parenting … and compared keeping Bear near her in the same way animals keep their young close to them.

“I’m a natural mama. And I just do what’s natural. I’m a loving mama,” the star elaborated.

“I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is scared of nature and scared of love.

“If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals, if you put your baby over there, your baby is going to get eaten.

“So, it’s not ideal for the baby to be over there.”

Silverstone shares her son with ex-husband Christopher Jarecki.

She continued during the aforementioned appearance about how she followed a tactic called “elimination communication” when raising Bear, stating that she would rarely use diapers when teaching her kid to potty train as a toddler, for example.

Instead of diapers, Silverstone would “watch his cues” to know when Bear would need to use the restroom.

“It’s so awesome. It’s so easy,” she said.

“When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom in the toilet. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom.”

Silverstone has long been vocal about her allegedly unconventional parenting methods.

In June 2020, as another example, Silverstone said that she had been taking baths with her then 9-year-old son during COVID quarantine.

She also said they danced, jumped rope and went on the trampoline often together.

Elsewhere, Silverstone has faced criticism for feeding her son an all vegan diet.

“People said lots of different things, and I was sort of ‘the freak,’ and I guess I’ll take pride in that because it is hard to be the person that’s speaking out, and it is hard to be the person that is saying the thing that isn’t what everybody else wants to hear,” she noted on the podcast.

In conclusion, the actress said she tries hard not to judge anyone else.

She knows that being mother “is the most precious, most unbelievable experience in this world.”

However, Silverstone believes “it’s not for everyone and anybody who doesn’t want to do it shouldn’t do it.”
