“It has been my lifeline, a place where I found peace.”
Prince Harry is giving a little insight to the early days of his relationship with Meghan Markle.
While recently giving a speech at the United Nations, Harry opened up about his passion for Africa — which actually played a role in his love story with Meghan.
Harry explained that not only has he felt closest to his mother, the late Princess Diana, while on the continent but it’s also where he realized he would marry Meghan.
“For most of my life, it has been my lifeline, a place where I found peace and healing time and time again,” Harry said during his speech.
He added, “It’s where I felt closest to my mother and sought solace after she died, and where I knew I had found a soulmate in my wife.”
Looking back on the couple’s relationship, their first trip to Africa, when Harry seemingly made his realization, came after they had gone on just a few dates together.
Harry previously revealed that the couple traveled to Botswana together, where they got to know each other while camping under the stars.
“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” Harry said.
He added, “We were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”
Since then, Meghan and Harry have returned to Africa, a place Harry now refers to as a “second home.”
