Spring is a great time to get outdoors and bond with your pets through fun and engaging games.
As the weather warms up and the days get longer, IOL has combined seven games that you and your pet can enjoy together.
1. Hide Toys and Treats
Playing hide-and-seek with toys or treats can be an exciting game for your pet. Hide them around your yard and let your furry friend use their sense of smell to find them. This activity not only provides mental stimulation but also turns mealtime into a fun and rewarding game.
2. Go Sniff
Taking your dog for a walk and letting them explore and sniff around can be incredibly enriching for them. A decompression walk allows your dog to put their nose to work, processing various scents in the environment.
3. Fishing
Cats love to hunt and fishing can be a fun activity for them during the spring. You can buy a cat fishing toy or simply use a plastic fishing rod to play with your cat indoors or outdoors.
4. Playing Fetch
Engaging in a game of fetch is a classic outdoor activity that offers both mental and physical stimulation for your pet. It helps improve their agility, co-ordination, and overall fitness levels while strengthening the bond between you and your furry companion through interactive play.
5. Chase a Flying Disc
Throwing a flying disc for your pet to chase is an excellent way to satisfy their instinct to pursue moving objects. You can make the game more interesting by setting challenges such as longest catch, highest catch, or incorporating tricks like having your pet jump over obstacles before catching the disc.
6. Flirt Pole
A flirt pole is a fantastic toy for dogs that mimics the motion of prey. It consists of a long pole with a stuffed toy at the end of a line, allowing your dog to chase and catch it. This game is perfect for dog owners who may not be able to engage in extensive physical activity with their pets and taps into their natural desire to chase and catch prey.
7. Participate in Outdoor Pet Yoga (Doga)
Outdoor pet yoga, or “doga,” is a trending activity that allows pet owners to practise yoga with their pets. This unique bonding experience promotes relaxation and flexibility for both the pet owner and their pets, creating a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere for bonding.
