Crypto Company to Send Key to 62 Bitcoin to the Moon as Lunar Treasure Hunt

Prominent cryptocurrency company LunarCrush recently announced plans to have the private key to a crypto wallet containing 62 Bitcoins etched onto a lunar rover bound for the moon on a SpaceX rocket.

California-based social intelligence company LunarCrush has partnered with planetary mobility firm Lunar Outpost to set up the first lunar treasure hunt in human history. Two years ago, Lunar Outpost unveiled the digital concept for MAPP, a new generation moon rover, and the company apparently has plans to launch the exploration vehicle to the moon on a SpaceX rocket in the fall of 2023. This allegedly innovative lunar vehicle also doubles as a treasure chest. LunarCrush announced that it will have the private key to a crypto wallet containing 62 Bitcoin (currently worth around $1.5) etched onto the body of the rover for the first humans on the moon to find.

“The Bitcoin bounty, dubbed Nakamoto_1, will be unlocked by the first space traveler to reach the moon and obtain the wallet’s private key, which will be etched onto a Lunar Outpost MAPP rover launching into space later this year,” a joint press release read.

“When you put out a seemingly unachievable goal, the innovation that happens can be incredible. Our goal is to inspire people to build communities that will unlock a new era of exploration,” LunarCrush CEO, Joe Vezzani, said. “We envision classrooms, groups, companies and even DAOs [decentralized autonomous organizations] coming together to reach the moon and split the treasure chest’s rewards. It’s like Willy Wonka’s ‘golden ticket’ for the Web3 era.”

Lunar Outpost’s MAPP rover is scheduled to launch earlier this year aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and touch down near the moon’s south pole. Once the vehicle is on the ground, the treasure hunt is officially on, and any resourceful human is free to put together a mission to reach it and collect the secret key for the 62 Bitcoin.

Obviously, for now at least, this is an impossible treasure hunt, as no man has set foot on the moon in many decades, but who knows, if the price of Bitcoin rises enough, maybe this wallet key can inspire an acceleration of a second moon landing.
