By now, you’ve likely heard the news that Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson have broken up.
Neither party has spoken publicly about the split yet, but tabloids and social media have provided just about every take imaginable.
Also silent on the matter has been Kim’s family, who reportedly hit it off with Pete from the very beginning of his relationship with Kim.
The Kardashian-Jenner clan has an excellent track record when it comes to keeping exes in the family fold — but that might not be the case with Pete.
After all, he and Kim only dated for nine months, and he still makes his home in Staten Island, roughly 3,000 miles from the Kardashian headquarters of Calabasas, California.
But while Davidson might not keep getting invitations to Thanksgiving dinner, a la Scott Disick, it seems that the Kards are still very sad to see him go.
“Although Kim’s family was surprised when they found out Kim and Pete had broken up, they weren’t totally shocked,” a source close to the family recently told Hollywood Life.
“They know that Kim really cared about Pete and wanted to make things work. But at the end of the day, they understand because she does have a lot going on and can’t always drop everything for a romantic relationship,” the insider added.
“They’re definitely supportive of Kim and Pete’s decision to just be friends, but there’s still a part of them that’s sad about the whole situation.”
It seems that Khloe and Kris in particular “were getting really close with Pete and they’re definitely going to miss having him around all the time.”
“They absolutely adore Pete and even though he and Kim only dated for a little while, he got very close with the whole family, including Kim’s kids, in such a short time,” the source continued.
“They have nothing negative to say about Pete whatsoever, and he’s more than welcome around their family anytime.”
A separate source says that Kourtney, Kylie, and Kendall are also “really bummed” about the breakup “because they adored Pete.”
The second source says that Kim’s sisters appreciated the way that Pete “brought a sense of normalcy” to Kim’s world, and they were quick to “welcome him into the family.”
“Kim did not care about being famous when she was with him and this was so refreshing to see,” the source explained.
“She was able to be her quirky funny self and he seemed to bring out the best of her.”
The insider adds that the relationship began to fizzle out around the time that Pete went to Australia to film a movie.
“When he went to Australia, she told her family that they would make it work, but something changed after she went to visit him and no one understands why,” says the insider.
“She seemed to get very frustrated with the distance thing, but it is not like he will be there forever. Everyone is really hoping that they get back together when he is done with filming there.”
Well, not everyone is hoping that.
Kanye West has been celebrating the breakup and joking about Pete’s death on Instagram.
Insiders say the rapper is still hoping to reconcile with Kim — but something tells us her family would be less than thrilled with that decision.
