In recent weeks, a lot of wild allegations about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been making their way across the social media landscape.
Most of them of them originated from a new book by “journalist” Tom Bower entitled Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors.
The book is every bit as salacious as it sounds, and even by the standards of the British tabloid media that spawned the troll-like Bower, many of the claims it contains are downright bonkers.
This is the book that has high-ranking royal aides ranting about how Harry and Meghan’s marriage “will end in tears.”
It’s got Harry’s friends begging him not to marry Meghan, and the Queen rejoicing at the news that Meghan would not be able to attend Prince Philip’s funeral.
Ya know, because nonagenarian heads of state often walk around spewing gossip within earshot of the sort of randos who would repeat their words to the media.
Anyway, Bower’s latest is essentially a 540-page hit piece aimed at making life more difficult for Harry and Meghan.
And it seems that the author has accomplished what he set out to do.
But he won’t receive the satisfaction of forcing the Sussexes to speak out against him.
Yes, more than a week after the publication of Bower’s drivel, Harry and Meghan have yet to deny any of the allegations publicly — and it seems there’s good reason for that.
“You can’t respond to it all,” author and royal expert Gareth Russell told Us Weekly in a recent interview.
“If you go out answering every single book or allegation, it will consume your entire day. You won’t have spare time to devote to your own mental health and your own well-being.”
Hilariously, Meghan and Harry’s silence flies in the face of Bower’s claim that the Sussexes are forever combing the internet and obsessing over every but of criticism.
“Every night they scoured the internet to read the newspaper reports and the trolls’ postings on social media,” he writes.
“Irrationally, they grouped the two together and fed each other’s frenzy about the media,” the book continues.
“Convinced that as champions of goodness they were being persecuted by mendacity and racism, they felt victimized by the mildest criticism.”
Russell says it’s all hogwash, and no one in the extended Windsor clan is overly concerned with trash-talk from bottom-feeders like Russell.
“When you are as famous as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there is going to be a lot of speculation,” he explained.
“It doesn’t always do anyone good in public life to always be answering and rebutting those claims.”
Harry and Meghan speak about their emotions and their private struggles more often than other royals, but Russell says that’s simply because they’re representative of a younger generation.
“I think Harry and Megan will probably be remembered as the people who bury that attitude for themselves and for future generations of the royals,” said Russell.
“And that, maybe, is no bad thing.”
Incidentally, Bower said he wrote the book with the intention of bringing about Meghan’s downfall.
So maybe take everything he says with many grains of salt.
