The Duggars are not exactly known for their sense of humor.
In fact, we would be surprised if either Jim Bob or Michelle Duggar has ever cracked a joke in the entirety of their time on earth.
Some fans might wish that the Duggars showed their jovial side more often (assuming they have one).
But on the rare occasion when one of them attempts to be funny, most of us are reminded that it’s probably better if they leave humor to people who believe laughter wasn’t invented by the devil.
Case in point, the one time John David Duggar and Abbie Burnett attempted to joke about their relationship and wound up sounding like they were describing a particularly sticky PornHub clip.
These days, John David and Abbie are expecting their second child.
But the joke in question occurred early in their relationship and just resurfaced on Reddit this week.
“Romance has been in a bottle I guess, in my life for years,” John David said in a confessional segment that the couple filmed for Counting On.
“And I cracked it open,” Abbie chimed in.
“And Abbie just took the cap off of it,” John David continued, innnocently enough.
If these two had just brought the analogy to an end there, everything would haver been fine.
But for reasons that defy logic, they decided to keep it going.
“It’s never going back on. You don’t have to hold it in anymore,” Abbie said.
“You can just slather it on,” she continued.
At this point, you’re probably hoping that that’s the end of imagery.
But unfortunately, we have some bad news for you:
“And the more you do it, the more you have in you that’s gotta come out,” John David continued, seemingly no longer referring to his emotions.
Not surprisingly, folks on the always-entertaining r/DuggarsSnark had a field day with John and Abbie’s remarks.
“I kept thinking I was gonna follow this analogy,” one person commented, according to UK tabloid The Sun.
“But they kept adding onto it and now I have no idea what it’s supposed to be mean.”
“So are they talking about lube? I hate everything about it, that’s all I know,” another added.
“Goodness, so sheltered that they don’t understand the unintended sexual innuendos in what they’re saying,” a third chimed in.
“He makes me cringe” said one.
“This just got grosser and grosser. Romance is lotion?” yet another asked.
There might be some truth to the theory that John David and Abbie are so sheltered they don’t know what they’re implying.
Then again, a lot of these old Duggar “jokes” have been resurfacing in recent months, and certain members of the family seemed to delight in shocking viewers with their suggestive language.
Not surprisingly, most of the risqué remarks came from Josh Duggar.
We doubt that the the family would be so quick with the double entendres these days, what with Josh’s many sex scandals.
Then again, they’ll never be on TV again, so we’ll never know!
