NYC Mayor Eric Adams Says Rudy Giuliani Should Be Investigated For Reporting A False Crime After Claiming To Be Assaulted While Video Showed He Was Tapped On His Back

Earlier this week, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani claimed that he was assaulted at a grocery store on Long Island while helping to campaign for his son. He described the incident and said he felt a shot to his back which caused him to go forward, but he didn’t fall. However, the surveillance video showed a less dramatic incident than what Giuliani described.

During his appearance on “The Daily Show,” current New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, called for Giuliani to be investigated for reporting a false crime.

Adams said to Trevor Noah,

“He falsely reported a crime, and the district attorney should take that seriously. That person he falsely reported spent 24 hours in jail, that’s not acceptable. I’m going to call the D.A., we must be consistent, all of that theatrics that he did, that’s not acceptable. If that tape wasn’t there, imagine what would have happened to that man.”

While speaking on the situation, Mayor Adams mentioned the Central Park Karen incident involving Amy Cooper and Christian Cooper. If you all remember, back in 2020 Christian was falsely accused of threatening Amy’s life after asking her to put her dog on a leash.

Daniel Gill, the grocery store employee, was originally charged with second-degree assault. However, according to NBC News, court records show the charges were later reduced to misdemeanor assault with intent to cause physical injury. The records also showed two additional misdemeanor counts, third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment.

Check out what Giuliani had to say about the incident earlier this week.
